Select ‘Edit’ to start working with this basic two-column template with an emphasis on text and examples of text formatting. With your page in edit mode, select this paragraph and replace it with your own text. Then, select the Basic two-column template title and replace it, too. Type your name in the page author field under the title.
You’ve just edited a page template and you’re on your way to making this page your own!
Use the editing toolbar.
After you select this paragraph, use the toolbar to choose styles, make other format changes, and add links. For example, this is a link to an article about the text web part.
Add a table from the text and table formatting pane. To open the pane, select the ‘More’ option, shown as … in the toolbar.
Your page has been saved!
The area of the page just above the editing area provides commands like ‘Save’, ‘Discard changes’ and ‘Page details’. It also provides messages like ‘Draft not saved’ and ‘Your page has been saved’.
As you’ve made edits to the page, have you noticed the message near the Save button change? Even when you don’t select Save, drafts of the page are being saved automatically! This background save makes it less likely you will lose the changes you make.
Now that you’ve mastered the basics, you can also read more about editing page details in SharePoint. Your pages have never looked better.
Ready to go
Once you’re happy with your page, you can hit the publish button on the right. If you are creating news, this button will say ‘Post News’ instead. This will let everyone who has access to your site view your new page. You can always come back and edit the page after you publish.
After your page is published, you can save it as a template (you can also do this from the save button on the left). Now whenever you create a new page or news post, it will show up in the template picker. This will make creating similar content a lot faster in the future.
